Equality skills

Equalities can often seem like a minefield, strewn with obstacles to trip over and upset or offend people. While it is useful to know about and be aware of other people’s cultures, lives, specific concerns and so on, it is not essential. There are a number of transferable skills, general ways of thinking and behaving that enable you to treat individuals and groups with fairness  and respect, whether or not you have specific knowledge about them.

People don’t want to feel that they are being treated ‘fairly’ because they are a member of a ‘protected group’ but because they are a person and have the same human rights as anyone else.
